ORGANIZER POSITION

 

About SPARK

SPARK Reproductive Justice NOW is a statewide, community-based and centered reproductive justice organization based in Atlanta, GA. Our mission is to collaborate with individuals, communities and organizations to grow and sustain a powerful reproductive justice movement in Georgia. We do this by:

  • Developing and sharing a radical analysis in order to change culture;
  • Mobilizing in response to immediate threats; and
  • Organizing for long-term systemic change.

About the Position

SPARK is looking for a highly motivated, creative, and energetic organizer to join our team. SPARK is currently in an exciting time in our growth. We have two dynamic programs, Speak Justice Take Action and FYRE (Fierce Youth Reclaiming and Empowering), as well as leading grassroots campaigns, building and growing the leadership of our base with new member led projects i.e. the Georgia Name Change Project, and is actively involved in leading regional and national movement building initiatives. As an organizer, you will be responsible for galvanizing members, organizations, and communities to lead and win community centered campaigns to increase awareness, build knowledge, visibility, power, and leadership for reproductive justice. This position requires the ability to respond to the immediate threats our communities are facing (direct actions and mobilizations) while building towards lasting, social change (base building, political education, and leadership development).

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Organize and coordinate campaigns and initiatives: (some examples of potential campaigns: Regional Week of Action, Legislate THIS Day of Action, Queer and Trans Youth Summit)
  • Community outreach and base building: Responsible for community outreach events, tabling, conferences, screenings, and increasing statewide presence in particular women of color, young LGBTQ people, and immigrant communities
  • Leadership development: Support and build the leadership of current and new members, organize skill building opportunities, manage member led projects
  • Movement Building: Responsible for maintaining and building relationships with Georgia and regional partners and current initiatives
  • Political Education: A critical thinker with experience with creating political education, trainings, facilitation, developing analysis, statements and/or resources: i.e. position paper, zines, and flyers

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain a welcoming space for SPARK members through innovative programming and activities
  • Responsible for providing evaluation and detail report backs on work
  • General office and administrative work
  • Participate in SPARK staff meetings, program team meetings, strategic planning, program development, staff evaluations, fundraising, and help build our dynamic organizational culture

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong commitment to an intersectional social justice movement including but not limited to reproductive justice, racial justice, economic justice, feminist/queer liberation, and organizing in the South
  • 1-3 years experience with organizing, base building, and outreach with diverse communities especially women of color and queer youth of color; a degree or some experience with gender/women’s studies. sociology, history, ethnic/race studies, American studies a plus
  • Experience with campaign development and implementation with clear goals and results
  • Familiarity with public policy, advocacy, and grassroots lobbying and campaign development
  • A self-starter who is enthusiastic and creative, and a leader who works well collaboratively and independently
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Familiarity with grant reports, position statements, developing analysis, newsletters
  • Familiarity with Mac operating system and Google products
  • Creative problem solver who can meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Wants to be a part of an incredible family of activists who work hard, play harder, and are committed to transforming Georgia and the South

ABOUT THE POSITION AND HOW TO APPLY

This position is a full-time salaried position with excellent medical, dental, and optical benefits and paid vacation. Salary is commensurate with experience. The general work schedule is 10AM-6PM with some evenings, weekends, and travel required. The Organizer reports to the Executive Director.
