Fierce Youth Reclaiming and Empowering

Fierce Youth Reclaiming & Empowering (FYRE) seeks to support and build the leadership and power of lesbian, gay, bi, trans, same gender loving, questioning youth of color and our allies, in Atlanta and statewide through relationship building, political education, resource development, art and media work and community based research.

Through growing our knowledge and sharpening our skills we share our histories, reclaim our experiences, and empower ourselves and our communities.

Program Goals

  • Provide a safe space for queer and trans youth of color in Atlanta, as well as Georgia at large, to build relationships with each other and network.
  • Provide the opportunity for other groups and organizations serving queer and trans youth of color to collaborate to ensure that queer and trans  youth of color have the support and resources they need for success.
  • Hold spaces for queer and trans youth of color to engage in political and historical education and gain concrete skills.
  • Encourage and inspire queer and trans youth of color to critique mass media by reclaiming their own histories and lived experiences relating to gender and sexual justice.

Current Happenings

FYRE’s current initiatives are FIRE: Sparking the Flames in Each Other, an art/resource zine by and for Southern lesbian, gay, bi, trans, same gender loving, questioning youth and our allies and The Youth Media Project, a dynamic gathering of queer youth of color reproductive justice activists thinking critically, re-imagining and creating media for our resilience, our lives, and our communities.
