IGNITE Media Camp

Some Background

In December 2010, FYRE brought together 10 LGBTQ youth of color from the South to learn, build, and create together. Inspired by our FIRE Zine and the prevalence of user generated media in their lives, the Media Camp created 3 short films and curriculums and hosted a number of community film screenings to increase awareness and education, galvanizing a new crew of informed and fired up reproductive justice activists.

This year, we are taking inspiration from the very places we live and explore and are embarking on a journey to create a large-scale visual media project that will be as fierce as the LGBTQ youth of color that bring their creativity to the project. We want to see ourselves reflected on the very walls of our neighborhoods and actively engage our communities to think critically about the issues that matter most to LGBTQ youth of color living and loving in the South.

The What What!

IGNITE is a 4 day/3 night dynamic gathering of LGBTQ youth of color – artists, budding activists, and critical thinkers – who will reimagine and create media for our resilience, our lives, and our communities.

Participants will engage in interactive skill shares about reproductive and media justice while learning the valuable media skills needed to create murals, stencils, and other visual media to amplify the voices of LGBTQ youth of color.

IGNITE is open to all LGBTQ youth of color 18-24 currently living in the Southeast region. Accepted applicants will have travel to and from site, lodging, food, and other camp expenses covered.
