Fall LITerary Book Club w/ Kuluntu Reproductive Justice Center
In this book club, we’re diving into the post-capitalist world of Everything for Everyone: An Oral History of the New York Commune 2052-2072 by Eman Abdelhadi and M.E. O’Brien, two radical queer scholars. Everything for Everyone is a speculative novel set after a social and economic revolution has transformed the so-called United States into a network of locally-based, self-governed communes. In this world, everyone’s basic needs are met, no one works for pay, and people navigate conflict and repair without carceral systems. The book explores how revolution happens and how it transforms every part of our lives in the process.
At SPARK and KRJC, we’re interested in the power of our collective imagination to imagine beyond our current-day systems, but our imaginations need fuel! That’s why we chose Everything for Everyone for this six-week study series. We’ll be reading and discussing chapters of the book centering around certain themes, engaging with other texts and activities to integrate what we learn, and hearing from guest speakers to deepen our understanding!
The themes we’ll be talking about are:
- Family abolition and communization
- Sex work and building the revolution
- Migration and refuge
- Youth liberation
- Landback
- Restorative and transformative justice
